# LinkedIn video

> Render a film for LinkedIn posts and ads, with the limits, the 30 fps gap for ads and the vawe commands.

Canonical: https://vawe.dev/docs/linkedin-video

At the end of this page you have a film in a LinkedIn ratio and you know the one ad rule that vawe cannot meet today. LinkedIn video ads ask for less than 30 fps. A vawe final is 60 fps.

## The limits

The sourced table is in [Video specs by platform](https://vawe.dev/docs/platforms). Read from LinkedIn Help on 2026-10-31 and 2026-11-01.

For a video ad:

* Ratios: 16:9 (640 × 360 to 1920 × 1080), 1:1 (360 × 360 to 1920 × 1920), 4:5 (360 × 450 to 1080 × 1350) and 9:16 (360 × 640 to 1080 × 1920).
* Length: 3 seconds to 30 minutes. LinkedIn suggests 15 to 30 seconds for all placements. In-stream ads run up to 90 seconds.
* File: MP4, H.264 or VP8, 75 KB to 500 MB, frame rate less than 30 fps, AAC or MPEG4 audio.
* Captions: SRT, text only.

For a post:

* Resolution 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304, aspect 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps, 75 KB to 5 GB.
* Length: 15 minutes on the video-sharing page and 10 minutes on the Page video page.
* LinkedIn publishes no loudness target.

## The 30 fps gap

`bin/vawe ship` renders at 60 fps. Its help lists `--aspect`, `--param`, `--out`, `--wait`, `--status` and `--profile`, and no fps flag. A 60 fps final does not meet the ad rule of less than 30 fps. A 60 fps final is inside the post range of 10 to 60 fps.

For an ad, vawe cannot make the file today. Convert the final to a lower frame rate with your own tool outside vawe. This is a known gap: `ship` needs an fps flag. A draft is 30 fps, which is not less than 30, and it is half size.

## Make the film

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ### Pick the ratio

    Use `4:5` for a feed post, `1:1` for a square one and `16:9` for a wide one. `4:5` is the recommended vertical ratio in the ad table.

    ```bash
    bin/vawe new my-post --request "a 20 second product update" --aspect 4:5 --length 20
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Draft

    ```bash
    bin/vawe dev films/my-post/page.html --aspect 4:5
    ```

    See [Draft](https://vawe.dev/docs/draft). A 4:5 final is 1080 × 1350, which is the maximum on the ad table.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Ship

    ```bash
    bin/vawe ship films/my-post/page.html --aspect 4:5
    bin/vawe ship --status --wait
    ```

    To make a 1:1 and a 16:9 from the same page, run `bin/vawe ship films/my-post/page.html --aspect all`. It writes five files, one per common aspect.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Limits

* Ads: the 60 fps final fails the frame-rate rule. See above.
* Captions: LinkedIn takes captions as an SRT file. Captions in a vawe film are part of the picture, and vawe writes no SRT.
* Loudness: LinkedIn publishes no target. See [Loudness and the mix](https://vawe.dev/docs/loudness-and-the-mix).
